Profit from Prophecies
So I took it upon myself to partake in an experiment revolving around my favorite campaign. I wanted to know exactly how much gold I could make in one run through of prophecies. Here is what I did.
(This was before books for added gold btw)
Spent no money at all. I acquired all my weapons and armor from collectors. This way I was assured at least I can't be one shotted by enemies at endgame. I was a WARRIOR so i needed a max weapon, ty collectors.
Used only henchman. Hero's is not a luxery of Proph despite having the other campaigns, I thought it was important to play the game as if I was new.
Only used skills acquired from quest's. Thank goodness prophecies has a lot of these lol.
completed EVERY SINGLE QUEST POSSIBLE (Excluding Titans and UW/FoW, but Including Sorrows Furnace)
Other then going out of my way for quests or areas with quests, I didn't go to places i didn't need to.
Sold every item I got in the most effective way, whether that was from players (certain materials) or merchant.
Completed every mission/bonus.
With all these goals I was proud of myself when I followed every single one. Granted this was all in normal mode so I didn't have too many problems. (Mursaat towers can be annoying without heroes lol) but I did it all the same. Despite being proud of myself I was rather annoyed with the result.
21,875 gold. That's right, only 22k.
I realize the quest rewards weren't that great but it was a large campaign and i expected at least a minimum of 40k
In the end, I still love prophecies the most however, and I realize this number is completely dependent on luck. I challenge everyone to do the same thing, however, with other campaigns as all. Only if you want to of course. What do you think of these results?

I think you could get more from a Hard Mode run doing nothing but missions, and taking care to collect all drops. At a guess I'd say around 70k, give or take a bit.

I find your number of 22k too astoundingly low to be correct. Just how much of the total money that you made did you have to spend on that character to only end up with 22k at the end of it?

I didn't spend any surprisingly. Like i said I used collectors to get my armor and weapons, and i cheated JUST a little and used storage money to get inventory so i had max space. So i guess only 50g for storage?
Granted I was probably EXTREMLY unlucky.
This is why I want other people to do it, to compare end profit.

I don't find it hard to believe. Henchies steal every good drop, it seems even more so than heroes do.
Oh and, back in the day, a max weapon with 15^50 was an easy 40k+
Now it's merch or hero fodder

starting a new mesmer in factions tomorrow and will apply same principle and see how it comes up. incidentally for sake of parity on data, did you completely solo with hechies or did you pug/guild help on some missions?

Completely solo with henchmen.
However if you want to go in GWEN and grab gwen vekk and oggy, and subtract any gold aquired on the way, thats fine with me.

you're really unlucky.
or too lazy to pick up drops (especially the ones that can be salvaged for runes).
I started 4 days ago with a necro and i already have around 11k. I haven't done any of the forest missions, and still to beat ring of fire.
11k and yet i already spent on Sig Cap (my next sig purchase is already 400g).
i only identified the blue and the purple (i put the gold drops to my other account to increase wisdom title). no farming done (im working on Survivor and now about 350k exp), just plain very careful game.
no white or black dye dropped so far.
all gold are from loot, identified and sold to merch (no player-to-player trade).
11k.
i feel like Prophecy is cheating on you.
[i spent around 25k on my armor from Faction. I owe the money from my main account.]

Great experiment. Definitely a lot lower than I expected. I was sure you'd be above 30k, but now that I think about it, my first run through the game I was completely poor. Same with my second run...and third...

Well, I believe it. proph quests give skills, while factions and nf quests give gold and ss/lb points. I think nf is the richest game because every quest gives mad gold. eotn is the same but there's less quests. So yea, I'd believe that about proph.

I can tell you that I did salvage any worthy mat's and runes/insignias.
However I aquired my Kits from storage as well. Guess i forgot to mention a couple things lol.
Yeah I probably got cheated, but thats what I got >_>

I hear Koss demands triple rates. Bastard. I don't think Alesia should qualify for any drops. How many times I cursed her name during prophecies...
Other games give you cash and crutches. Prophecies makes you a better player.

I think that would be slightly low but realistic. Did almost the same as the OP, but not to test it out, just because I don't really care about making gold. I had I think 69k after the 3 main campaigns, but doing almost NO side quests, and spending gold only on nightfall armor and salvage/ID kits.

That makes sense. NF and cantha are WAY more rewarding even without side quests.

With low numbers like this your salvage method comes into play.
ID all golds/purples before selling is pretty much taken as read.
Blues/Whites however can make losses, depending on where they came from. Then there's merch cost vs salvaging for matts. (Personally I id golds/purps and blindy merch the rest, far too fidly to do anything else).
20k still seems surprising. Back in the day though people were still "power selling" dye, so perhaps our concept of value has inflated.
An interesting experiment. GJ.

22k honestly doesn't suprise me much for NM. The gold drops for a good deal of Proph are really miniscule, and are divided among the party to boot. I wonder how a complete play through the other campaigns would compare. hmmm....

interesting experiment, I should try that with my pre-searing ranger. I have a question though how much time did you spend in pre, and did you count the money you made there in you calculations??
